Diploma in Business Management

The Diploma in Business management aims to develop the knowledge, skills and professional practices that will enable you to undertake a range of roles in the Business, accounting, Marketing, Human capital management, as well as banking and financial sectors, the programme also provides a rigorous theoretical and practical knowledge base that prepares students for further studies and assist them enter into the industry with the relevant skills. Students who successfully complete the diploma will progress to the Bachelors degree that can be complete in MSU-Colombo/Malaysia or at any of partner universities worldwide. 


Business Communication
This course is designed to increase students’ awareness of the functions and importance of communication in the business area. This course will focus on the human as well as the technical application of communication in achieving the goals of an organization. Special emphasis will be placed on the strategic communications. 

Introduction to Information Technology
This course provides a basic understanding of the computer system organization including hardware and software. It provides knowledge on software package and its application in problem solving. It also exposes the students to basic computer, the usage of relevant software packages and the current computer issues. 

Introduction to Economics
This course would give exposure to the basic economic concepts where the content of the course are divided into microeconomics and macroeconomics. Among the topics discussed are demand and supply, price and market equilibrium, production costs, national income and international trade. 

Principles of Finance
This course emphasis on the theory, concept and the financial principle in the local financial institutions. Students also will be introduced to the time value of money, tools for financial information analysis and to the financial prediction. 

Business Law
The primary objective of this subject is to prepare students for employment in a wide range of career opportunities in business with the appreciation of legal issues concerning businesses. Positions in the commercial sector often require knowledge of commercial law which includes law of contract, sale of goods, hire purchase and corporate law. 

Practices of Management
This course covers the four main functions of management, i.e. planning, organizing, leading and controlling. Students will be exposed to the basic activities, methods and processes involved in each of the management function.

Introduction to Customer Service
This course will prepare the students with concepts and up to date techniques in customer service. Students will be exposed to theories and methods of implementing customer service activities to enhance the students’ ability and capability in managing customer service activities. The course objective also is to prepare students with the foundations of customer service which will be encountered. Students will be expose to topics which includes introduction to customer service, problem solving, strategy, empowerment, communication, motivation, leadership, customer retention and measuring customer service. 

Principles of Marketing
The course will discuss on basic concept of marketing and marketing management. Students will bve exposed with consumer behavior and marketing research. The course also explain on marketing strategy which include product, price, promotion, and distribution channel. 

Organizational Behavior
The course will discuss basic behavioral concepts, its suitable usage, and its importance to business, industries and its relation to any national and international, and global organization. 

This course introduces the basic concepts and issues of electronic commerce that are related to the challenges and advantages of using information technology in the digital economy. These include electronic payment system, electronic banking and electronic retailing. Emphasis will be given to the used of technology and application development in the borderless world era. 

Introduction to Strategic Management
This course focuses on strategic management as an important process in improving the efficiency and competitiveness of organization; concepts, theories, techniques and main steps in forming, implementing, evaluating and strategy controlling in an organization. 

Management Ethics
Students will be exposed to the internal and external environment factors that will affect business activities either directly or directly. They will also be taught on current business social responsibilities practiced and its importance on attaining good name to the business in the long term, as well as business ethics. 

Quality Management
This course covers several main topics including the basis principles of total quality, the relationship between quality management and the organizational theories, the relationship between total quality management and organizational behavior and finally, total quality and strategic management. 

Human Resource Management
This course emphasizes on the “interface” between the human resource managers and other managers in implementing the various human resource management activities such as work force planning, recruitment, selection, training and development, compensation and employer-employee relations. It focuses on the methods and techniques of improving organizational effectiveness through sound human resource management practices in the private and public sector while also comparing the philosophy of the management from both the western and non-western perspectives. 

Introduction to Accounting
This course covers topics on recording in financial statement and communicating the information to the users. Students will be able to equip themselves with a basic knowledge in the field of accounting where they can develop interest in pursuing higher knowledge in the field of accounting.

Diploma Holders will find ample opportunity in not only availing themselves to careers in Business industry but also in government services, academia as well as careers in internationally recognized hotels, event organizations and travel operators.
